Change

Have you ever felt stuck in your life - as if you couldn't take another step forward because something was holding you back? I remember when I was in my early teens, this is when people began to really have expectations of me. I was a larger, stronger and faster person amongst my peers. This gave other people the idea that I was meant for sports or things athletic. They were right to some degree, because I had grown up in sports all my life and continued to play all kinds growing up, but it wasn't my passion. My passion was to learn daily something new; something that inspired my creative genius. I know, however, that doing what everyone else expected of me was not the way to get there or to achieve my goals.

It was time for a change. A mental shift. And it happened within me when I decided to say, "No." Over and over and over again. When I did something others wanted me to do, I did it gladly and gratefully, until the day came when I knew it was no longer bringing me joy and it was time to move on to things that did. And to things that would bring me a step closer to my achieving my goals.

Most people called me a "quitter." I simply believed it was me growing out of a phase, or a moment in my life. This transformation into the next part of who I wanted to be was simply an evolution of the direction I wanted to head to in my life.

When I stopped playing a sport, it wasn't to just sit around and do nothing. I would immediately pick up another activity, hobby, craft, or knowledge to fulfill my time with. These moments are the times when I began to learn other languages, learned to act, sing, play instruments, meet new people, do arts & crafts, spend time with animals, volunteer, or travel.

I know that whenever I felt stuck, it was time to move - and to move fast. Because what happens if we don't move fast enough is that we get comfortable, or we actually become stuck. The key thing to always remember though is that if there's a way in, there's a way out.

We should never feel as though we have to remain in a sport, a job, a hobby, a career, a class, a craft, a place or a relationship even; if we know that it is not right for us to be there. If you know that it is time to move on, to bring change into your life, do it - and do it now. There's no time to waste because there are greater things waiting for you.
