Successful by Passion, Not by Profession

Recently, I went onto the site of an Instagram influencer I’ve been following for quite some time. He is one of my sources of inspiration when thinking about accomplishing great things by being passionate about things in our lives. DoYouTravel has amassed a following of more than 2.7 million on Instagram. His counterpart, Gypsea_Lust, who is another person to admire, is close behind with a following of more than 2.1 million. Both of these influencers are greatly successful in the travel niche; motivating and inspiring others to travel, experience cultures, and discover amazing places around the world.

After recently settling in Bali to build their first home together, Jack Morris (a.k.a. DoYouTravel) shares in a Q&A on his website, some of the biggest questions he’s been asked by people on his influencer lifestyle and fame. From my knowledge of him since I first discovered him, to the new understanding I have of his experiences from his Q&A, I can appreciate the work he does even more.

His simple and straight-to-the-point answers are expressive of his personality; a laid-back creative with a love for travel and photography. As he mentions, he did not start out with the luxuries of the traveling lifestyle. He was a carpet-cleaner for four years before setting out to explore the world. Even then, his following only began to grow as he lived out of a bag for another four years while moving about from country to country. As he explains, there is a complete freedom of being able to do whatever you want living this way, but you also sacrifice time with your family or friends back home.

It is possible, however, to find success doing what you love and pursuing your passions. Both Jack and Lauren Bullen (a.k.a. Gypsea_Lust) are examples of this, since they first met during their travels abroad. They have become a power-couple on Instagram. They earn six-figure incomes with their lifestyle and get paid up to $9,000 for a single post. They take and edit their own photos and sell presets of the editing techniques they use in Lightroom.

How do these influencers represent the “successful by passion, not by profession mentality”? Well, as Grant Cardone writes in his book, The 10X Rule, “Most people feel like they are working – rather than chasing passion – because the payoff isn't large enough.” To me, this represents a mentality of following our dreams rather than where the next paycheck comes from. Why? Well, as some of the most successful people have discovered through their achievements, through hard work, dedication, and passion for what they believe in, they can achieve success in anything they set their minds to. Take Jack and Lauren as examples. Or Eduardo Serio, founder of the Black Jaguar White Tiger (BJWT) foundation, “a global non-profit changing the world through education, law reform and the rehabilitation of Animals.” Or Elon Musk, the creator and founder of multi-billion dollar companies changing humanity for the better future of mankind. Anyone of these individuals amongst many doing wonders in the world are leading their lives to success with passion, to achieve greatness.

I believe it is suitable to finish this piece with another message from Grant’s book when he says, “People act as though work is something to get through, yet in reality, they spend very little of their time at work. Successful people work at a pace that gets satisfying results; that work is a reward. Truly successful people don’t even call it work. To them, it’s a passion; a hobby - something that they want to do. Because they do it enough to win.”
